Abstract

FRANCA, Maria do Perpétuo Socorro Gomes de Souza Avelino de  and  PIMENTA, Adriene Suellen Ferreira. THE FLOWERING OF THE FLOWER OF CHARITY AND THE TRAINING OF WOMEN IN THE ANTÔNIO LEMOS ORPHANAGE. Práx. Educ. [online]. 2022, vol.18, n.49, e10758.  Epub July 04, 2023. ISSN 2178-2679.  https://doi.org/10.22481/praxisedu.v18i49.10758.

This article analyzes the educational practices that were part of the training of women at the Antônio Lemos Orphanage from 1893 to 1940. This is a documentary research, in which we used the perspective of historical analysis, whose listed sources were the Municipal Intendance reports de Belém, messages from the government of Pará and articles from the newspaper A Província do Pará and Folha do Norte. The Antônio Lemos Orphanage had its origins in the Orphelinato Paraense created in Belém, capital of Pará, in 1893, with the objective of supporting and educating orphaned girls. Over the years, the institution has undergone several transformations and has become a model in the education and support of orphaned girls. In 1903, on the initiative of the intendant of Belém Antônio José de Lemos, the construction of a new building for the institution in Vila de Santa Isabel began, which was called Orfanato Antônio Lemos. The educational practices developed in this institution were based on the ideals of civility and religious principles of the Catholic Church, which sought to form immaculate women, not only capable of governing the home, taking care of their children and husband, but also of having a job and to train rural normalist teachers.

Keywords : orphanage; women's education; rural normal school..
