This article is the result of a master's research that sought to investigate the teaching of History in the public network of Vitória da Conquista-BA, in the period of the Civil-Military Dictatorship in Brazil, and had as its main source the memories of teachers. The objective is to understand how the teaching of History in basic education took place, in the public network of Vitória da Conquista - BA, during the dictatorial period in Brazil, based on the memories of teachers. This research falls within the scope of the History of Education and the teaching of History, and in the reflections on curriculum. The teachers' narratives were analyzed in order to understand the relationships established between the taught subject and the context of repression, in addition to considering the way in which the memory of this period was reconstructed by the interviewed teachers and the meanings they attributed to these memories. In the methodological course, we made use of Oral History, as a data collection tool, in addition to document analysis, as possibilities for discussion around the curriculum of the time, teacher training and the history of History teaching. The analysis of the narratives showed the presence of contradictions in the postures of some teachers. At the same time that they criticized the textbook, the imposed regime, the doctrinal content of official history, on the other hand, they reinforced the need for values cultivated in that period, such as behavioral and civic conduct.

Keywords : teaching history; teacher memory; civil-military dictatorship.
