This study deals with aspects of the history of education in rural areas of Lomba Grande - RS, between 1940-1952, from the memory of students and municipal Isolated Schools teachers. Objective was to build from oral sources aspects of Isolated Public Schools municipal primary, at this location. Memories are analyzed from the perspective of “social time” in the sense that come Halbwachs (2006), by formal or informal relationships, through various cultural mediations that make up the social frameworks memories. Under the framework of Cultural History, the analysis drew on oral testimony of ten subjects in the study. In this work, we emphasized the discussion of the use of oral memory and writing as an investigative chance for education history study in rural areas, with the assumptions sources as document / monument, as discussed Certeau (2011) and Le Goff (2012). The memories enabled to know and understand how school practices and cultures were constituting inside School Isolated at this location. The school and institutionalization in Lomba Grande was marked by the coexistence of private and public initiatives, under the influence of the community to expand public schools within this district.
