The search for happiness is naturally present as an ideal to be achieved by each individual of the human species. Kant, in his book Groundwork of the metaphysics of morals, intends to seek and establish the supreme principle of morality and clarifies that for this purpose the ideal of happiness has not able to base the laws of morality. In the book Critique of practical reason, Kant maintains that same position, but introduces the sovereign good object and, in respect of which, the happiness is the second element, but subject to the laws of morality and understood as a element necessary of the sovereign good. The objective of this work is to make a brief reflection on the importance of happiness in Kant’s moral theory, emphasizing the relation between morality and happiness in the concept of the sovereign good. We intend to argue that although the principle of morality and the principle of own happiness are based on different principles, there are possibilities to combine the pursuit of own happiness with the fulfillment of moral actions
