Abstract

FERREIRA, Marcello; SILVA, André Luís Silva da  and  VERDEAUX, Maria de Fátima da Silva. Progresso and no scientific determinism from key concepts of Thomas Kuhn’s epistemology. Conjectura: filos. e Educ. [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.2, pp.244-266.  Epub Aug 21, 2019. ISSN 2178-4612.  https://doi.org/10.18226/21784612.v23.n2.2.

This papper searches, in the epistemology of Thomas Kuhn, the contributions that sustain its vision regarding the way in which the science would progress; these contributions suggest an approximation with historical aspects of a science understood as non-deterministic. The concepts of paradigm, incomensurability, normal science, anomalies and crises, scientific revolution and extraordinary science were discussed, based on the work The structure of scientific revolutions, in correlative bibliography and secondary sources. The consequences of this theoretical linkage lead to the obtaining, in Kuhn's epistemology, foundations that allow a discussion of the temporal, conditional, susceptible, uncertain – and therefore nondeterministic – character of scientific knowledge.

Keywords : Thomas Kuhn; Scientific progress; Determinism; Epistemology.
