The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the extent to which Amartya Sen’s re-reading of Adam Smith’s work would provide insight into the international economy as a promoter of human development. To do so, we will firstly present the senian re-reading of Smith's work, focusing on his ethical concerns, and then presenting the Amartya Sen justice model aimed at promoting human development through freedoms. For this, we will use as the guiding thread of this research the works On ethics and economics from Amartya Sen e An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of the Nation from Adam Smith.
