Resumen

RECH, Gelson Leonardo. Education and italianity: the option for italian religious congregations. Conjectura: filos. e Educ. [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.spe2, pp.157-180.  Epub 17-Sep-2019. ISSN 2178-4612.  https://doi.org/10.18226/21784612.v23.especial.7.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, several religious congregations came to Rio Grande do Sul to meet the needs of the Catholic Church, also highlighting the pastoral zeal of the clergy of Rio Grande do Sul. Particularly in the 1920s, in the midst of a resurgence of Italianity in the state, led by the consuls, the authorities’ choice of religious corporations of Italian origin was observed, as they promoted ethnic schools and the maintenance of Italian language courses. The analyzed documents indicate that both Consul Luigi Arduini and Consul Manfredo Chiostri accompanied the actions of religious congregations and made sure they remained in the colonies of immigrants. This work also presents elements of the treatment of the coming of the Congregation of Saint Joseph, demonstrating the concern of the leaderships with the disappearance of the idea of belonging to the homeland of origin.

Palabras clave : Italianity; Religious congregations; Ethnic schools.
