From the beginning of his philosophical program, Gabriel Marcel demarcates a decisively guiding question: the statute of being. By radicalizing such a project in terms of a hyperphenomenology, the philosopher asks himself whether being is really a substance or essence or, if you want, something that can be identified or grasped logicallyintuitively. Faced with this question, he diagnoses a neuralgic point that the metaphysical tradition incurs: being is reduced to a simple object whose access is absolutely positive, direct. Now, can ontological investigation be redirected with the aim of phenomenologically describing another comprehension of being? Marcel believes so at the moment he glimpses another possible horizon for re-posing the aforementioned question, namely, that of situating being as a “mystery” that, in an intimate and integral way, surrounds me, involves me, nourishes me as a source inexhaustible. To this end, Marcel rehearses, in his writings, successive attempts to meet this demand. Among them, that access to being is experienced indirectly in a kind of “concrete approach”, given that our relationship with it is not frontal, objective, but lateral, allusive, oblique. It is, finally, in the landmarks of an indirect ontology that this level of experience is seen, whose meaning and scope the reflective movement of the text seeks to measure, in its general lines.
