Abstract

SOUZA, Sandra Elisa Réquia  and  TREVISAN, Amarildo Luiz. Education in the contemporary era in relation to emotions and feelings. Conjectura: filos. e Educ. [online]. 2023, vol.28, e023033. ISSN 2178-4612.  https://doi.org/10.18226/21784612.v28.e023033.

This study seeks to investigate the constitutive movement of the articulations between reason and emotion and its influence on contemporary education. Therefore, it seeks to situate new contributions from the research of Antonio Damásio for whom emotions and feelings are considered indispensable for rational life, differentiating us from each other, making us unique and enabling us to a repertoire of emotional responses created from the interaction between body and mind. The reflections of the 17th century philosopher Baruch Espinosa are also used, whose contribution to this study lies in his concepts of affection, freedom and servitude. Thus, a move is proposed in order to contextualize the understanding of the concepts of emotion and feelings, culminating in the unveiling of their real influences on human action and in the transcendence of the vision built from the modern epistemological paradigm. In order to do so, the philosophical perspectives between reason and emotion that have been produced over time are punctuated and, in the second moment, we seek to understand the articulations between emotions, feelings and consciousness. These notes will result in elements in favor of dignity, reverence for life and freedom of thought as values to be ensured and defended in education. And, in this way, they provoke their actors to re-discuss the role of emotions and feelings, reassessing the agenda of their actions.
