The contextualization concept has different meanings, which, in turn, reinforces misconceptions of the concept and its appropriation in the classroom. In this context, the article aims to raise and discuss the conceptions of contextualization of undergraduates in the Degree in Chemistry. Our methodological approach lies in the analysis of the answers to a questionnaire proposed to 16 undergraduates from different periods of the course. As a result, it became evident that, regardless of the stage of the course in which the future teacher is, the concept of contextualization includes ideas related to the exemplification of concepts and the establishment of relationships with everyday life. When looking for a profile of students throughout the course, we noticed that this confusion persists, reinforcing the need for teacher training courses to promote environments for discussion and application of contextualization in didactic activities that allow the conceptual re-elaboration of this important educational principle.
