Abstract

The textbook is under frequent evaluation; however, its imagery resources are often underestimated in analyses, as images of a poor and irredeemable Brazilian Semi-arid region that are widely disseminated and established in common sense. Thus, this research aimed to analyze how the Semi-arid is represented in the books approved for use in the New High School (2021-2023), analyzing, from a qualitative and quantitative perspective, the images referring to the Semi-arid present in the Natural Sciences books of the seven approved collections by the PNLD. The data obtained indicates a relative improvement in how the Semiarid region was represented, mainly through images that focus on its productive potential in the area of renewable energy and value its natural heritage. However, the Semi-arid region is still portrayed in a superficial and technical-descriptive manner, and it is up to the teacher and other local education agents to fill these gaps.
