Several studies in Brazil point out a decrease in vaccination coverage among teenagers. This is mainly due to the lack of knowledge about vaccines and the diseases they protect. In this sense, this research aimed to analyze a teaching experience with 28 high schoolers. As a methodology, we used a didactic sequence drawn from research-action principles, which approached the theme of vaccination, questioning education in individual and collective health, and the appropriation of immunology knowledge. Based on these data, we found that the methodological approach used raised more interest, motivation, and students' participation, differently from what typically occurs in classes with a traditional approach. Besides this, we could explore less understood issues more effectively and stimulate students' autonomy regarding knowledge construction.
