Textbooks are a resource widely used by teachers in the school environment; textbooks contain guidelines that can guide their pedagogical actions. Thus, this research sought to reveal the specialized knowledge of the Chilean textbook for teaching mathematics in the first year of Basic Education. Understanding this knowledge allows us to identify the influences of this material when used systematically in lesson planning, considering its potentialities and limitations. We classified the respective guidelines according to the definition of the subdomains of the MTSK theoretical model. The highlighted knowledge was KMLS and KMT, while KSM was the least highlighted. Thus, we perceived strong influences on curricular knowledge and the use of different resources and strategies to teach mathematics, but a lack of information associated with the connections between the contents. We hope that this documentary study can assist in Teacher Training, so that it can also constitute an aid for future research.
