The present article aims at presenting and interpreting the materials that comprise catarinense professor and educator Elpídio Barbosa's personal archive (1909-1966). His archive is comprised of both official and ordinary documents -magazines, school photographs, press cuts, education legislation and varied notes - thus allowing mapping and constructing aspects of the history of catarinense education between the decades of 1930 and 1960. This investigation is focused on the understanding of this protagonist's role in formulating the educational guidelines analyzed in the perspective of the History of Education in a regional and national level in the aforementioned decades. The article also takes into account dialogues under the light of cultural heritage studies, by means of analyzing the instances that characterize a personal archive as a cultural asset.
