Abstract

SOUZA, Carlos Eduardo Dias. CONTEXTS, PRACTICES AND INSTITUTIONS: SECONDARY EDUCATION AND THE ORGANIZATION OF PEDAGOGICAL REPERTOIRES IN DOM PEDRO II´S REIGN IN BRAZIL. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2018, vol.22, n.54, pp.154-173. ISSN 2236-3459 .  https://doi.org/10.1590/2236-3459/70608.

This text recognizes an internal dynamics in secondary education institutions in the Brazilian Empire. Its development takes place through the observation of the pedagogical dynamics of three key schools: Colégio Pedro II, in Rio de Janeiro, capital of the Empire; Ginásio Baiano, in Salvador; and Culto à Ciência in Campinas. These dynamics share common elements, such as regularity in teaching, emphasis on the humanities and functioning in boarding school, but also has variations that would be related to the context in which each college is inserted. Thus, taken from Ann Swidler, the concept of repertoire allows articulating aspects of culture - in this case, pedagogical - to the political dynamics of each context, illuminated by the work of teachers such as Abílio Borges and João Köpke.

Keywords : education; politics; mediations.
