Abstract

MONTAGNINI CARDOZO, Mariana  and  HONORATO, Tony. A DECENT WOMAN, A COMPETENT TEACHER: BODY EDUCATION PRACTICES IN TEACHER EDUCATION (IEEL, 1970's). Hist. Educ. [online]. 2023, vol.27, e122829.  Epub May 20, 2023. ISSN 2236-3459.  https://doi.org/10.1590/2236-3459/122829.

This article analyzes, through historical evidence located at the Instituto Estadual de Educação de Londrina-PR (IEEL), which were the practices of body education present in the training of teachers in the 1970s. The education of the body, following the theories of Norbert Elias, is a historical and procedural human phenomenon equivalent to the constant civilizing appropriations by the individual in life in society. Historical sources (minutes of meetings, reports, course programs and others) made it possible to investigate the training of teachers. For analysis, three parameters were considered: control, inspection and surveillance practices; the contents, disciplines and training knowledge; and, the complementary educational practices. As a result, women in teacher training were expected to have a set of principles, values and behaviors that were socially reinforced - inside and outside of school - and that educated them in their own direction, namely, a decent woman and a competent teacher.

Keywords : education of the body; Norbert Elias; education of women; history of teacher training.
