Resumen

SILVA, Marliane Porfirio da  y  VIVEIROS, Kilza Fernanda Moreira de. The representation of female education in Assú (RN) through the lines and between the lines of the newspaper Brado Conservador (1876 - 1881). Hist. Educ. [online]. 2024, vol.28, e139167.  Epub 31-Dic-2024. ISSN 2236-3459.  https://doi.org/10.1590/2236-3459/139167.

This work falls within the area of interest of the History of Education, with an emphasis on the representation of female education in the newspaper of the city of Assú (RN), Brado Conservador (1876-1881). This research aims to identify how social spaces determined representations of female education. We used the New Cultural History as theoretical and methodological support, which allowed us to understand the history of ordinary citizens and to look at other perspectives that represent 19th century society. Through Chartier's (2002) bias of representation, we identified how the newspaper served as an influence in maintaining the conservative ideals of the time regarding the representation of female education. This research is also based on discussions about women's history, the writings of Falci (2004), Duarte (2010) and Del Priore (2004; 2020), which have contributed to understanding and problematizing female education, among its limits and possibilities.
