The article is structured in four sections. The first one describes what are the conditions, determinants and indicators of the financing of compulsory education in Spain. Among them, there will be the model of a territorial organization of a decentralized State, in which the Autonomous Communities acquire a decisive role in the self-government of the important educational competences they have and, therefore, in their financing. The second one deals with the most recent educational policy measures on the financing of education in Spain. The fundamental instrument that is the General State Budget Law for the year 2023 and the different Budget Laws of the Autonomous Communities are analyzed. The third section reflects on the critical issues and questions raised by financing. One of these problems has to do with the inequality that exists between the Autonomous Communities in significant aspects. And finally, the relationship between financing policies and issues of quality, equity and social justice is discussed.
