This study analyzes the effects of Constitutional Amendment 95/2016 on public higher education. For a greater evidence of these effects under the public policies directed to the Federal Institutions of Higher Education, the budget destined to the student assistance policy of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Paraíba (IFPB) - Campus João Pessoa during the period from 2016 to 2022 was analyzed, aiming to understand how budget cuts in Education, starting in 2016, affected the student assistance policy on the aforementioned campus. The study is characterized as a documental research, having as instruments the documental analysis and the method used was the qualitative one. As a result, the austerity policies implemented in the analyzed period, more specifically the constitutional amendment 95/2016, negatively affected student assistance on the analyzed campus, resulting in a decrease in the number of scholarships.
