Abstract

VEGINI, Valdir  and  VEGINI, Rebecca Louize. NARRATIVES OF KUJUBINIANAN ORAL TRADITION: memory, identity and culture. Rev. Exitus [online]. 2017, vol.7, n.1, pp.179-199.  Epub May 14, 2019. ISSN 2237-9460.  https://doi.org/10.24065/20177id190.

The article has as its object the partial collection of ancestral narratives of the Kujubim people and aims at publicizing, even if partially, the traditions (customs, beliefs etc.) remaining in the memory of some informants in the hope that these traditions are revived and perpetuated. To support the work, the authors rely mainly on studies that deal with individual, collective and historical memory and its centrality to individual and collective identity formation, and oral tradition and narrative technique development. And after a brief ethnic characterization of the Kujubim people, the authors present the transcript of nine reports (adapted to standard written Brazilian Portuguese) produced by these informants during thes Assembly of the Kujubim people held in the parish hall of the Catholic Church of Costa Marques in December 2013. The cultural heritage consists of the following narrative: “Finding the way home again”; “The game, the manioc bread and fire in the village”; “The routine in the village”; “Painting in the body: war and party”; “Father of the forest”; “The mother of the water”; “The city under the Guaporé river”; “Three hunters and the mysteries of the forest”; and “The Mapinguari”.

Keywords : Kujubim People; Memory; Oral tradition.
