PANTOJA, Suellem Martins  y  DAMASCENO, Alberto. THE TEACHER IN THE FIRST REPÚBLICA NO PARÁ: notes about his role and his function in the family and school relationship. Rev. Exitus [online]. 2018, vol.8, n.3, pp.199-223.  Epub 05-Jun-2019. ISSN 2237-9460.  https://doi.org/10.240065/2237-9460.2018v8n3id644.

In this text we aim at understanding the disseminated idea about the teacher in the period of the First Republic, as well as the role he/she exercised concerning the relationship between family and school evolved from the School Regulation of Primary Education [Regulamento Escolar do Ensino Primário] established in 1890 and the articles by H. de Sant’Anna in the Journal of Education and Teaching [Revista de Educação e Ensino], distributed in Pará in 1894. This text results from a documental and bibliographical research, that preliminarily analyzes the precepts which regulated teaching in this period and that pointed to the formation of citizens for the progress of the nation; thus, education would work as a mechanism for the diffusion of republican ideas. In this respect, teacher could not behave in school and in society as a “common citizen”, since both the School Regulation of Primary Education and Sant’Anna’s writings even express rules of moral and social behavior arrive that would exceed the limits of school. To the master, it would be a task to be a propagator and inspector of new habits and rules in the school environment, based in the concept of an ideal teacher designed by the educational regulation and the educational press of the period, which were linked to a political project – that of implementing the republican ideal. In this respect, the teacher was considered as a master of civic life, holder of a profession known as ministry, forging the future of the Brazilian nation, especially cultivating in the children the feeling of love of the homeland country and the Republic.
