Considering the need to give visibility to young people from the countryside to study at the university, this research indicates the existence of diverse social actors in this segment and reveals social and political demands, specifically, in what refers to the profile of young people in the countryside who have access to higher education. The following text is a result of the research entitled “Youth in the field and higher education: a study on access and permanence in the public university held at Campus XII of the University of the State of Bahia (UNEB)”. A study that considered as period for data collection to the enrollment of the students between 2013 and 2016. As a data collection procedure, a survey of the enrollments was carried out with the academic secretariat of the DEDC/XII with the intention to identify the young people from the countryside enrolled in this institution. After that, questionnaires were used with 107 youngsters from the countryside identified. With the analysis of these data, we sought to understand who were these young people, who decided to continue their studies even when the condition of being young and of the countryside was crossed by historical difficulties, access to education and the guarantee of social rights, since access to university for these has been considered as a long-standing process.
