Abstract

The objective was to understand what scientific journals in the North and Northeast of Brazil are publishing about the continuing education of teachers in the last year (2019). For this, a state-of-the-art study was developed considering the production disseminated by the following magazines: Educação & Formação, Práxis Educacional, Tempos e Espaços em Educação and Exitus. From the content analysis of the titles, abstracts and keywords, 22 articles were identified, which dealt with the continuing education of teachers. These gave rise to three thematic categories: Public interventions in teacher development; The school as a teaching formative space; and educational praxis. These themes were discussed, mainly, by qualitative studies, of the case study type, with the use of interviews, literature review and questionnaires for data collection. The discussions pointed to the need for continuing education for teachers that were promoted by the public sector and focused on the articulation between theory and practice to qualify critical and contextualized praxis.
