Abstract

FREITAS, Renan Ferreira de; OLIVEIRA, Endell Menezes de  and  FREITAS, Nadia Magalhães da Silva. Museological exhibition “Transformations: the Amazon and the anthropocene” Knowledge objects and their relationship with science teaching. Rev. Exitus [online]. 2020, vol.10, e020096.  Epub Mar 28, 2022. ISSN 2237-9460.  https://doi.org/10.24065/2237-9460.2020v10n1id1232.

Human activities have severely impacted the planetary system, so that humanity has been considered a geological force. It is in this context that scientists have proposed the establishment of a new epoch - the Anthropocene. The Anthropocene is part of the great discussions regarding environmental and social aspects, which bring multiple risks to humanity and the environment. Its approach should not be restricted to the formal classroom space. In this sense, the museum exhibition “Transformations: the Amazon and the Anthropocene”, of the Museu Paraense Emilio Goeldi, in the municipality of Belém, state of Pará, brought together these two important themes in contemporary times. To contribute to this discussion, we undertook an investigation process, aiming to apprehend how the objects of knowledge of the Exhibition are presented, in their relationship with science teaching. We adopted the qualitative approach and resorted to free observation, which is a data collection technique; such data were submitted to interpretative analysis. Many of the objects of knowledge linked to the Anthropocene in the Amazon were highlighted in the Exhibition, namely: deforestation, fires, monoculture, cattle ranching, among others, linked to the forest. We understand that the Exhibition played an important role in the educational field, as it brought objects of knowledge which represent mediators of teaching and learning with meaning to think about the events that contribute to the Anthropocene in the Amazon.

Keywords : Anthropocene; Amazon; Knowledge objects.
