This article reports an investigation that seeks to list the notions of practice covered in the propositions that support the historical-critical approaches regarding teacher education in Brazil, specifically the work Crítica da organização do trabalho pedagógico e da didática, by Luiz Carlos de Freitas. The aim is to identify what has been acknowledged as practice by the literature connected with the dialectical and materialist notion of knowledge production. The research justification is based on the objective need, subjectively recognized, to particularize the materialist category related to practice. Freitas addresses the issue presenting practice as the source of theoretical categories from which teaching should be developed. In a very unique interpretation, knowing what classroom practice is presents possible paths for overcoming the restrictions of capitalist school, leading to teaching interventions suited for transforming such relations of production.
