The article aims to examine some aspects of Higher Technical Education in Chile, taking as historical references the recent Higher Education Law of 2019 and the transformation that originated in 1980 in this tertiary educational modality, in the light of which it is intended to address its characteristic levels of privatization and disarticulation. In this way, the text offers a description of the behavior of some relevant indicators of the educational modality, a historical sketch of its development, based on general antecedents, and a classification of its central tasks. As a result of this analysis, the challenges posed to Higher Technical Education in the country are identified.
