With the theme Municipal Councils of Education and democratic management in the Northeast region of Brazil, the article aims to analyze the implications, challenges and perspectives posed to the CMEs for the implementation of democratic management in the Northeast region. Based on bibliographic and documental research, based on dialectical historical materialism, we discuss the CMEs as spaces that contribute to the democratic management of public education at the municipal level, urged to overcome the challenges in their composition and in the development of their attributions, to guarantee the right of all to education, as stated in article 205 of the 1988 Federal Constitution.
