Abstract

ALKIMIM, Rogério Cruz  and  CECILIO, Sálua. TEACHING CAREER IN MG BASIC EDUCATION - STATE PLAN, RESTRUCTURING AND IMPLICATIONS ON THE VALORIZATION OF TEACHING: The case of Espinosa, between 2015 and 2023. Rev. Exitus [online]. 2025, vol.15, e025012.  Epub June 12, 2025. ISSN 2237-9460.  https://doi.org/10.24065/re.v15i1.2775.

Valuing teachers' careers is an essential debate for the future of basic education in Brazil. As such, this article presents an excerpt from a research project that aimed to understand the contributions and limits of the Career Plan for Basic Education Professionals in the Minas Gerais State Public School System, based on State Laws 15.293/2004 and 21.710/2015. These instituted and restructured the Plan, which had implications for the process of valuing and professionalizing teachers. Based on an analysis of the national and state regulations governing the issue of teaching careers, recommended in the Constitution of 1988, LDB 9394/96 and subsequent legislation, and a review of the related literature, a case study was carried out, with a mixed approach, based on documentary, bibliographical and field research, the latter fostered by the application of a questionnaire to the research participants, permanent and stable teachers working in state schools located in the municipality of Espinosa/MG. After the process of triangulating the data, treated under four categories: professional development, teacher remuneration, teaching career and prospects for the teaching career, a discontent is revealed between the research subjects and the current conjuncture, to the extent that the aforementioned Career Plan does not match the category's aspirations regarding salary issues, working conditions, improvement and career development, which take into account social, financial and professional valorization, and is therefore far from being an instrument that actually favors real and fair teacher valorization.
