The non formal educational policies in Argentina, although focused mostly in urban areas, have included various initiatives to the rural population. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of this type of education in rural areas through the analysis of the case of Agricultural Education Centers between 1970 and 2010 and to study the normative aspect of the question, especially the recognition of non formal education in national legislation. These proposals, emerged in 1970, in the heat of the international debate on the matter, have known fluctuations arising from different political, socioeconomic and educational conditions, but they have survived to the present. In context of agribusiness boom, these Centers are an option that supports family farms and small rural towns.
