Children’s drawings are one of the categories of historical sources that have been poorly considered by historian so far. Although some scholars have begun to examine their possible historiographical applications, nevertheless studies using children’s drawings as a source are still very rare. This article aims to explain the reasons for this historiographical trend, by highlighting its cultural and material grounding as well as by analysing the complex and numerous methodological issues which the use of this particular type of sources imply. The present contribution intends to provide, with no claim of being exhaustive or giving regulative principles, some theoretical and practical suggestions for a correct use of children’s drawings as historical sources.
