Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Sílvia de. The establishment of the formal education in Angola (XV-XX Centuries). Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2015, vol.15, n.2, pp.55-80. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v15i2.588.

This paper addresses the many moments that provided the implantation of the formal education model in Angola. Through literature research and archives, we try to trace the key moments that characterized this such long process. For this purpose, we had to trace back, from the date of the Portuguese arrival in that territory until the end of its governance at the last quarter of the twentieth century. We try to analyze the different policies and educational reforms during this period, namely, the missionaries experience, the Jesuits role, Pombal reform and the various amendments made since the establishment of the Portuguese Republic in 1910, the period of the military dictatorship, and later the Estado Novo education policy.

Keywords : Formal Education; Angola; Educational Policy.
