Abstract

MENDONCA, Ana Waleska Pollo Campos; SILVA, Fernando Rodrigo dos Santos  and  OLIVEIRA, Paloma Rezende de. The class of repeaters of the Colégio Pedro II: one step in the teaching career or a formation strategy? (1854-1876). Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2015, vol.15, n.3, pp.201-228. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v15i3..717.2.

The paper is based on a greater research about the way how the academic staff of the Colégio Pedro II was historically configured during the Imperial period. This investigation focuses on the creation of a new category of teachers: the class of repeaters, established by the Couto Ferraz Reform (1854). The study also presents and analyses the first public service exams accomplished to select the repeaters, the direction some of them took in the carrier and the controversy related to their function. It seems that the creation of the class of repeaters and explainers, for the first time, freed a spot for the teaching training, a formation that happens in the practice and linked to an experienced teacher.
