Abstract

SOUZA, Carlos Eduardo Dias. Education as a political horizon in the Second Reign: notes on the trajectory and the performance of Abílio César Borges. Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.2, pp.41-68. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v17n2.896.

The analysis of Abílio César Borges trajectory proposed here intends to relate his intellectual trajectory to educational context at the time of Dom Pedro II’s reign in Brazil. Sometimes associated with the uppish figure of Aristarco by Raul Pompeia on his novel O Ateneu, sometimes thought as a misunderstood innovator, Borges has been studied as a participant of the intellectual and political debates running that time. The main intention of this paper, underlining Borges relationships with different actors, is to allocate his presence on a common political debate. The innovations proposed and operated by him were built, we argue, based on a pedagogical referential here called as ‘pedagogical repertoire’, whose results were also political.

Keywords : Abílio César Borges; Brazilian Second Reign; Politics.
