Abstract: This study addresses rural schools established in the municipality of Pelotas, State of Rio Grande do Sul, during the 1920's, which were then called rural school groups by public authorities. In view of this timeline, the physical structures shown in pictures of rural schools built in this municipality, as well as floor plans that guided the construction of these schools, were analyzed. Since these images were published in Municipality Reports between 1925 and 1930, these pictures, as well as newspapers of the time, were considered research sources. Based on these sources and on the bibliography available, the analyzed period was contextualized so as to understand how rural education in Pelotas was structured at the time and why not all rural school group buildings followed the guidelines established.
