SOUZA-CHALOBA, Rosa Fátima de. The contribution of Studies on School Groups to the Historiography of Brazilian Education: reflections for debate. Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2019, vol.19, e063.  Epub May 01, 2019. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v19.2019.e063.

This article introduces reflections on the contribution of studies on school groups to the writing of the History of Education in Brazil. The paper argues that historical research on the subject over the last two decades has instituted and disseminated categories of analysis, collaborated to advance knowledge, and helped to consolidate new research objects. The first part discusses the emergence of school groups as an object of historical research, marking the theoretical frameworks that have guided production. The second part provides an analysis of the progression of comparative initiatives carried out involving several research groups and researchers providing thematic displacements and new interpretations built on the history of elementary school in Brazil.

Keywords : school groups; history of education; elementary school.
