Abstract

The article aimed to contextualize, historically, the principal Laws and Guidelines that subsidized initial teacher education, with focus in the Physical Education formation. The search was characterized as a documentary research. The sources used were Laws and Guidelines that permeate in Physical Education formation, having as its starting point the 1930s. It is noted that the teacher education courses were present since the first formations in Physical Education in Brazil. However, the specificities of teacher education were not substantially defined until the changes occurred in 2004.
