Abstract

GONDIM, Amanda Marques de Carvalho. National Commission of Morals and Citizenship: social configurations and national identity. Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2021, vol.21, e157.  Epub Jan 08, 2021. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v21.2021.e157.

The article tries to observe how some aspects about education presented itself in Brazil and in Portugal in historical periods of dictatorial regimes. One of the speeches was the one that considered the importance of the traditions and their maintenance to reach a civilizational stage superior to the current one, having the school education like main device. The methodology used was the observation of symmetries in the category national identity in texts of the first president of the National Commission of Morals and Citizenship [CNMC] in Brazil and the first national commissioner of Mocidade Portuguesa [MP] in Portugal. In both cases, statements about the production of national identity were found based on the valorization of traditions, which should be preserved and fostered in education in both cases.

Keywords : National Commission of Morals and Citizenship; Mocidade Portuguesa; dictatorship; comparative analysis.
