CASTELLANOS, Samuel Luis Velázquez  and  OLIVEIRA, Wilson Raimundo de. Democratic school culture at UFMA's University College (1980-1995). Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2021, vol.21, e160.  Epub Jan 22, 2021. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v21.2021.e160.

The set of practices and cultural representations of the University College of the Federal University of Maranhão (1980 to 1995) and the materialization of the democratic school culture through school practices are addressed. Educational, pedagogical and cultural practices that are transformed into school rituals denounce school grammar and its identity as in Application College. Theoretical and methodological assumptions of cultural history are used to cross-check data extracted from newspapers, legal provisions, school archives and interviews. It was concluded that the political integration between modes of knowledge and the exercise of power mediated by appropriation tactics in the search for school success point to COLUN as an instrument of social insertion / ascension in a process of emancipation continues through education.

Keywords : University College; school culture; democratic school practices.
