MONTENEGRO, Nara Romero; SOARES, Carmen Lucia  e  PAULILO, André Luiz. Arbor Festival (1920s-1930s): outdoor life and multiple meanings of the school party. Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2022, vol.22, e233.  Epub 01-Set-2022. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v22.2022.e233.

The Arbor Festival was a ceremony held by Brazilian schools whose central practice was the planting of trees by students. Other practices of festive sense, such as singing hymns, reciting poetry, gymnastics presentations were also included in the event's program. This article aims to analyze the pedagogical meanings of the Arbor Festival in the context of cities in Ceará between the 1920s and 1930s, from a set of sources consisting of newspapers, magazines, and prints. In the period two transformations related to the theme were underway: the insertion of the Escola Nova movement, led in the state of Ceará by Lourenço Filho, and the emergence of new conceptions regarding the outdoor life.
