Abstract

CHIOZZINI, Daniel Ferraz  and  LEAL, Luciana Silva. The black students of the Escola Doméstica de Nossa Senhora do Amparo (1889-1910). Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2022, vol.22, e213.  Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v22.2022.e213.

This text is part of an investigation into the process of schooling black girls at the Escola Doméstica Nossa Senhora do Amparo, in Petrópolis, between 1889 and 1910, which aimed to support and instruct the orphaned girls. Eleven students identified as black in the school's documentation, consisting of an enrollment book, parish registers and grade sheets were investigated. We sought to investigate whether there was any differentiation in the educational practices offered to them and the path taken from entering school to leaving school. To understand the meaning of the color category, the research dialogued with Mattos (2013) and Muller (2008a, 2008b).

Keywords : history of education; indigenous populations; Mozambique; colonial period; post-independence.
