Abstract

BRITEZ, Adriana Espindola  and  AMAYA, Stephanie. Luiz Alexandre de Oliveira: student, teacher and benefactor of education in Campo Grande - MS (1920-1960). Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2023, vol.23, e244.  Epub Dec 01, 2022. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v23.2023.e244.

This study addresses the trajectory of Luiz Alexandre de Oliveira, a black student, poor and visually impaired who achieved social projection as a teacher, director, and owner of educational institutions in Campo Grande, back then the south of Mato Grosso. In addition, the teacher's memoirs highlight his relationship with the community and the Japanese school during the Vargas period (1937-1945). The analysis result from the crossing of memorialistic and documentary sources, from the perspective of Pierre Bourdieu's studies. The access to secondary education provided him with the insertion in other social fields, as well as the prestigious representation in the city, being recognized as a benefactor by the Japanese community when guarding the assets and protecting the Japanese school.

Keywords : autobiography; teacher; secondary education; Japanese school.
