Abstract

SAINT-MARTIN, Jean; CARDIN, Lise  and  WALTHER, Lisa. Marie-Thérèse Eyquem or the emancipation under the control of female bodily practices (1942-1961). Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2023, vol.23, e286.  Epub Sep 26, 2023. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v23.2023.e286.

Between 1942, the year in which she was appointed project manager for women's physical education and sports, and 1961, when she became Inspector of Youth and Sports, Marie-Thérèse Eyquem multiplied initiatives to make young French women aware of the hygienic and aesthetic objectives of exercise physicists. The purpose of this article is to question this ongoing commitment over two decades and its effects on the transformations of female physical education. It is then a matter of measuring both the importance of this character's sources of inspiration and the evolution of her intellectual path, aiming to explain how the emancipation under the control of women that she promoted was based in part on a protected freedom of the female body.

Keywords : women; feminine body; female physical education.
