Abstract

DANIEL, Leziany Silveira. The Unesco manual La sociedad y la educación en América Latina (1962): idealization of school and society. Rev. Bras. Hist. Educ [online]. 2024, vol.24, e298.  Epub Nov 06, 2023. ISSN 2238-0094.  https://doi.org/10.4025/rbhe.v24.2024.e298.

The 1962 manual La sociedad y la educación en América Latina, by Robert Havighurst, of the University of Chicago, is the object and main source of analysis of this article, that aims to analyze and reflect on the discourses built about education and society projects engendered for Latin America, thought within Unesco (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). Therefore, this source is understood as a didactic manual built to be used in teacher training courses in Latin America, taking into account the purposes of disseminating and standardizing a certain interpretive discourse about the Latin American reality.

Keywords : education; development; Latin America; Unesco; networks of sociability.
