This article aims to analyze the instructive experiences formulated through horse racing in Curitiba between 1873 (the moment a racecourse was built) and 1897 (the year in which a new racing field started to be architected). Specifically, this study’s goal is to investigate discourses around this dynamic - especially those related to positions that indicate a need to adopt certain behaviors. Newspapers published in the city during the analyzed period were used as sources. To conclude, it was possible to consider that horse racing presented instructions of dual order: the prescription and acquisition of certain attitudes and the requirement and supervision of the learning of these gestures.
