Abstract

BARRETO, Maria Aparecida Santos Correa  and  ANDRADE, Patrícia Gomes Rufino. Weavings and reflections on the in-service training for teachers in ethnic and racial education. Rev. Comunic [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.1, pp.91-106. ISSN 2238-121X.  https://doi.org/10.15600/2238-121X/comunicacoes.v21n1p91-106.

The objective here is to analyze the teachers’ in-service training and its weavings starting from the experiences of the African-Brazilian Studies Center (NEAB) of the Federal University of the Espirito Santo State (UFES), from 2010-2012. The theoretical and methodological approaches were based on the African worldview, on the cultural and historical specifications of the black population in different areas of Brazil and on the analysis of the oppressive domination processes upon Africans and African descendants. The research participants were teachers, educators and managers who work with basic education at the State educational system. It proposes connected movements of participatory observation and interviews. Among other aspects, it highlights the fact that one of the main ways toward the improvement and organization of the school and pedagogical work is the understanding that the African worldview, as reinvented in the Brazilian territories, contributes to the enrichment of the discussions over several issues. The conclusion is that the investigative actions of the African-Brazilian Studies Centers (NEABS), existing at the higher education Brazilian institutions (IES), should take into consideration the affirmation of the multiethnic nature of Brazilian society, the training of teachers to bring about racial equality, and the elimination of all sources of discrimination and racial inequality.
