Abstract

AMERICO, Márcia Cristina. Quilombo Ivaporunduva: historical process and territorial and social organization. Rev. Comunic [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.1, pp.137-152. ISSN 2238-121X.  https://doi.org/10.15600/2238-121X/comunicacoes.v21n1p137-152.

This article shows the results of the already finished research for the Master of Education course, which intended to characterize the life of the Black Agroforestry Community Quilombo Ivaporunduva, located in Vale of the Ribeira, in the State of São Paulo, focusing on the historical process and on the social and territorial organization of this population. With elements that characterize the ethnographic work, the research sought to reconstruct the history of the Traditional Community Quilombo Ivaporunduva from the memories of the quilombolas about their past, their work, their confrontations and resistance to remain in the territory. Their family organization, their thinking, their criticism of the economic, political and social system in which were and remain inserted cannot be separated from all this broader context of social structure and power. It was concluded that the relations that the Ivaporunduva quilombolas maintain with other social organizations and the way they articulate themselves for the defense of their territory are actions that constitute them as subjects of their collective history and these actions are understood as educational practices.

Keywords : Quilombo; Territory; Social Organization.
