MONTEIRO, Albêne Lis  e  COSTA, Eliane Miranda. Trade-off teaching in Field Education in Portel (state of Pará). Rev. Comunic [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.2, pp.113-127. ISSN 2238-121X.  https://doi.org/10.15600/2238-121X/comunicacoes.v21n2p113-127.

This paper presents analyses and reflections on trade-off teaching, which is developed in the Teaching Degree in Field Education implemented in the city of Portel (State of Pará) by the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Pará. The paper results from a masters degree research project whose object is the Support Program for a BA degree in Field Education, and aims at answering the following question: How is trade-off teaching practiced in the Teaching degree in Field Education in Portel? This research adopted the single case study type. For data collection and analyses it made use of semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, a closed questionnaire, document and content analyses. The analyzes and reflections result from interviews, observation, and document analysis and are supported by works of authors such as Ribeiro (2010), Molina and Sá (2011), Arroyo (2012) and others, who helped identifying trade-off teaching as one of the guiding principles of the Teaching degree in question. This principle is a challenge for trainers and trainees considering the University’s structural and organizational conditions. And, as to the context in which this research was developed, the limits and challenges are even more complex due to the peculiarities of the area. However, trade-off teaching may be considered an important methodological strategy to recognize the knowledge and cultural matrices of the field in the region of Marajó.
