This paper aims at building an overview of the major trends and emphases presented in Revista Comunicações (Journal of Communications), considering its twenty years of existence. To achieve this goal, the published issues available online were analyzed and its 275 papers were classified in four groups, namely, History and Philosophy of Education, Educational Policy and Management, Educational Practices and Teacher Training. Within each group, the academic production was categorized according to the most recurring themes and some texts were highlighted due to their representation within the framework herein organized. The analysis of the material revealed the Journal’s growth and acceptance considering the relevance of the subjects addressed the evaluation by Capes, the indexing and the different origins of the authors. It was also observed how the journal’s course was marked by a change from an initial state of academic endogeny (either with respect to the authors or to the themes) to the current stage of greater relevance to the educational field.
