Abstract

MESQUIDA, Peri. A Dialectic conception of history and life: Boaventura in a Gramscian view. Rev. Comunic [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.3, pp.99-107. ISSN 2238-121X.  https://doi.org/10.15600/2238-121X/comunicacoes.v21n3p99-107.

This paper presents a reflection on the actions of the ex-rector of Unimep, which revealed his dialectical view of history and life. Moreover, it is an attempt to revisit two documents that marked the history of the Methodist Church in Brazil, one as a provocation to build a “new culture”, the other as a conservative response to the first. The paper also makes an analysis of initiatives taken by Elias Boaventura while President of the Methodist University of Piracicaba, in the light of the thought of Antonio Gramsci, particularly in light of Quaderni del carcere (Notes of prison) (1975) and Machiavel’s Dialectical conception of history, concluding that the link between theory and practice, reflection and action was a constant in Boaventura, thus becoming a real praxis. His “philosophy” could therefore be called a “philosophy of praxis”.

Keywords : Dialectical Conception; New Culture; Documents; Boaventura.
