Abstract

TANCREDI, REGINA MARIA SIMÕES PUCCINELLI  and  RESENDE, ADRIANA TORQUATO. Being a teacher: visions of students and teachers of the early years of elementary school. Rev. Comunic [online]. 2015, vol.22, n.2, pp.25-37. ISSN 2238-121X.  https://doi.org/10.15600/2238-121X/comunicacoes.v22n2p25-37.

The objective of this paper is to report some results of a study conducted in a public school in the early years of elementary school. The research aimed to analyze the opinions of 5th graders and schoolteachers about being a teacher and on the characteristics of a good teacher. For data collection various procedures were used, such as interviews with students and teachers based on a semi-structured script, drawings of students and a video recording of a simulated interview program. The theoretical framework was formed predominantly of authors who study the teacher’s role, successful teachers and teachers’ learning. In line with the literature and based on the collected data, we reached the conclusion that the teachers’ image revealed by the children is one who teaches and the good teachers are those who maintain good relationships with students and care about their learning. For teachers, teaching is a complex occupation, being necessary to like the profession; they also emphasize that good teachers need to specialize, prepare lessons, and promote the learning of proposed contents.

Keywords : TEACHER’S ROLE; SUCCESSFUL TEACHERS; EDUCATIONAL PRACTICES; OPINIONS OF STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.
